One of the largest exporters of tea
from Sri Lanka today, Imperial Teas began life as a small dedicated
team’s strong drive to supply the world Pure Ceylon Tea. Our
young company was founded in 1994 with just fifteen staff. Our focus
was our marketing - mainly of the packetted tea segment, directed
at the CIS countries.
The dawn of 1995 saw the launch of ‘IMPRA’ our own brand
name and flagship product to the CIS Countries. Continuous brand
promotion and commitment to quality established the brand "Impra"
in these markets.
‘MIAD’ was the next star to emerge in 1996, with emphasis
on bulk packaging aimed at the Middle Eastern market, getting established
in Dubai, Iran, Kuwait, Jordan & Syria. During the first year
of its operation, Imperial Teas exported 2,731,090.0kgs and was
placed as the 24th largest exporter in the country.
We next consolidated our brand in many regions in Russia and in
some of the CIS countries for high quality teas packaged under the
Impra brand. With high quality products at an affordable price to
its customers, Impra brand became a household name in the former
Soviet Union by the end of 1995.
During the years 1996 and 1997, we consolidated our position further
by moving into all CIS countries as a recognizable product, our
striking logo and color-coded packaging was our weapon for recognition.
By the end of the year 1997, Imperial Teas was rated as the 9th
largest tea exporter in Sri Lanka.
During the year 1998, the company started moving into other markets
including Japan, USA, Australia, the Czech Republic, Turkey and
Lebanon. The company moved to the position of 5th largest exporter
of tea.
1999 saw Imperial Teas build it's own modern, state-of-the-art tea
processing factory and office complex in the outskirts of Colombo
city at Peliyagoda, located close to most of the infrastructure
facilities in the Island.
The factory is equipped with modern tea storing facilities, and
sophisticated cleaning equipment, blending drums and other related
packing machines, to protect the quality of tea, and maintain the
highest of hygienic standards. A well-equipped designing department
and packing material development processing and supplying department
is linked to the factory, for supply of higher standard packing
materials needed for production. "Impra" is now sold in
over 60 countries through a strong distributor network with continuous
growth in the consumer markets.
Imperial teas spend in excess of US $ 600,000.00 annually on international
media and advertising promotions in all exporting countries. With
constant brand visibility, all media is used extensively to promote
‘Pure Ceylon Tea’.
Recognized for our distinct blended flavor, Impra Tea now stands
firm as the second largest packetted tea exporter of Sri Lanka.
